Various sexual exercises going back to the Tantric practices of ancient Hinduism allow some control to be recovered. In recent decades Masters and Johnson and subsequent sex therapists proposed a stop-start approach to sex, which definitely helps some.

What other DIY can help?

Masturbation several hours prior to sex is a definite help for many, as are delaying condoms and anaesthetic creams and sprays.

Mindfulness techniques can make the patient less anxious.

This mostly requires a coach eg a Clinical Psychologist to show you how to do this effectively and easily. Only a few sessions are usually required.

Is there some safe non prescribed medication which can make me less anxious?

Many find orally, two sprays of Rescue Remedy (safe and easily obtained over the counter) will reduce anxiety and NOT cause sedation. It is not habit forming nor addictive.

Can I take oral medication for both Premature Ejaculation AND Erectile Dysfunction together?

Premature Ejaculation is virtually always psychologically caused and Erectile Dysfunction of more than a few months duration mostly has a physical cause. Accordingly, while one CAN take oral treatment for both, for cost reasons alone I would suggest treating the Erectile Dysfunction first AS the relief from treating this may well carry over into improvement in one’s confidence regarding Premature Ejaculation. However both CAN be treated together, when necessary.

What medications can interact adversely with Dapoxetine (Priligy) or Paroxetine?

Other anti-depressant medications may increase toxicity without necessarily giving clinical benefit. Basically: if you are taking medication for depression this may NOT be the wisest choice for you. Our Medical Director will in any case carefully study your medications list you submit and advise you. There will be no charge for this advice if you are advised not to take Dapoxetine/Priligy or Paroxetine and you do not chose any other option we offer. Ketoconazole, an oral anti-fungal/ anti-yeast medication can interfere with blood levels and should be avoided ORALLY a week before and after taking this medication. Ketaconazole external applications eg scalp shampoos, are safe with Dapoxetine/Priligy or Paroxetine.

Why bother treating Premature Ejaculation?

An interesting series of discussions can be noted on the internet. Some writers suggest that the well documented increase in latency (the interval from penetration to ejaculation) by well over a minute or so is pointless. With all due respect to these learned writers, my own patients are grateful for any assistance given and increasing their latency period from only seconds to several minutes is for THEM in the realms of the miraculous. To empower a patient and offer him the chance to function as the man he knows himself to be should be seen as a correct and proper thing for a doctor to offer.
